Beach Cart Review

The Trudge of Toys and Gear to the Beach

Beach
There it is, just a short walk from the parking lot to the oceans edge.

Time to load up like a pack mule and march on down, drop off the first load and return for the second and third if necessary.

A better plan is to load up the rolling beach cart or balloon wheel fishing cart and make it in one trip. Many people, especially frequent beach goers, are now using beach carts to wheel their beach supplies down to their sandy home for the day.

So if you're ready to give up your pack mule days, this review should help guide your beach cart buying decision.

Rolling Beach Carts

One for the kids & one for the sportsman.
In my mind there are two different type of rollingbeach carts.

Family Beach Cart 1.There are those that are designed to load up the beach chairs, children's pails, shovels, and toys, umbrella, beach bag and if there's any room left an ice chest with food and beverages.

Fishing beach cart 2. Then there is the sportsman's cart or more specifically a beach cart with balloon wheels or rolling fishing cart. This cart has space for the ice chest or live well, tackle box, maybe a bucket or two, and is equipped with rod holders.

My Beach Cart

The regular beach cart that most families use is sort of like the shopping carts you see many elderly people use.

The carts collapse for easy storage and for carrying in the trunk of your car.

The photo at the left is our family cart that carries the beach chairs, blankets, ice chest and other items to the beach.

This is the closed position and you can see that it closes up pretty well for putting into the trunk of the car or storing in your garage.

My Beach Cart Open

The Beach Cart open

Here's what our beach cart with wheels looks like open.

A couple of things you should know about my beach cart.

Once you're in the sand you have to pull the cart. The reason is, those small front wheels are useless in the sand especially when the cart is loaded.

Also if I were to buy this cart again I would buy one with wider rear wheels like the Super Wide Wheel Wonder Wheeler.

Having wider wheels makes it easier in the sand. My cart pulls okay through the sand, but I'd still prefer the wider wheels if I were to do it over again.

Fishing Cart

Loaded Fishing Cart Ready for Fishing

A rolling fishing cart is a bit different because its function is different.

A fishing cart needs to transport fishing rods and reels, a tackle box, sand spike rod holders, possibly a live well for bait, possibly a bait bucket, possibly a catch bucket or ice chest for storing the fish caught, an ice chest for food and drinks, possibly a cutting board, and anything else a fisherman may want to take along.

As you can see in the photo you can really load up these carts with just about anything and everything that a surf fisherman will need.

The downside of this cart is that it really won't fit in your cars trunk. But it's great if you live or vacation at the beach, or have a pickup truck.

Note: I don't like the folding cart shown above. The one that looks like a hand truck. The reason is that when you put your rods on it and then grab the handle and pull it, the rods can hit you in the head which makes it hard to pull. I just think it's a bad design. However, it will fold up and go in your trunk.
